Njuri Ncheke: Governor Kawira Mwangaza Has 14 Days To Unite Meru Leaders

The fighting between Meru County leaders has attracted the attention of Njuri Ncheke, the tribe's supreme governing council of elders.

Njuri Ncheke: Governor Kawira Mwangaza Has 14 Days To Unite Meru Leaders

It has not been a good start for Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and the Members of the County Assembly who have been fighting and threatening to derail service delivery.

The Meru MCAs have rejected seven out of 10 nominees picked by Mwangaza to sit in her cabinet as County Executive Committee (CEC) members.

This unending feud has now forced the Njuri Ncheke elders to step in with a two-week ultimatum to the leaders to unite or they will suffer untold consequences.

"We have given Meru leaders 14 days to unite. After that, we will take the next action according to our Njuri customs," said Josphat Murangiri, the Njuri Ncheke Secretary General.

During a full leadership meeting at the Njuri Ncheke Shrine in Ncheru, the council made up of elders from Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties, issued an ultimatum to the Governor, MCAs and MPs to resolve their differences.

The Njuri Ncheke elders also demanded that the leaders work together to help "cleanse the shame" they have placed on the Meru community which has long been known for peace.

They also announced they stand with the government of the day including all elected leaders hence the reason they want them to work together peacefully.
