NMS To Conduct Fourth Green Park Test Run Next Week

The test run, which will take place in stages, will begin at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22 and extend until late evening.

All matatus stationed at the Railways bus stage will participate in the test run, according to NMS Director of Transport Michael Ochieng.

Green Park is to serve as official pick-up and drop-off points once matatus are banned from the CBD. It was supposed to be dedicated on May 24, but was postponed.

The postponement was due to a request for an extension from public service vehicle operators, according to the administration of lieutenant general Mohamed Badi.

NMS said in March that it would relocate all matatus from the city centre, beginning with those assigned to the Green Park terminus.

According to the national government agency, only three matatus per Sacco would be allowed to use the terminal at any given time.

Despite President Uhuru Kenyatta examining it three times before the commissioning last year, the reopening remains stalled.

According to NMS, the delays caused by the construction of the Expressway and feedback from the test run because some issues needed to be resolved.

Last year, NMS did three test runs to discover issues and loopholes.

The first test run, which took place on April 27, 2021, was fraught with ambiguity and frustration. The three-hour trial began at 6 a.m. and was intended to see how matatus would drop off commuters at the port.

The second was on May 28, 2021, in the evening from 3 to 6 p.m. to see how well commuters were picked up. Following the second test run, NMS stated that some adjustments in terms of Covid-19 safety measures and furnishings were required to ensure that matatus were not harmed while making a U-turn to drop off passengers.

The third one was held on June 17, 2021, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. The terminal was supposed to open in December 2020 as NMS stated it was ready but then postponed it.

According to Mohammed Badi, construction designs and engagement with stakeholders were among the issues that caused the terminus' completion to be delayed.
