Chebukati confirmed  Ruto as the president-elect after garnering 7,176,141 votes. This is 50.49 percent of the total votes cast.

His closest opponent Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga got 6,942,930 which is 48.88 percent of the total votes cast.

However, Four IEBC commissioners contested the Chebukati results, alleging that there were disagreements during the final round of tallying.

They withdrew from the Bomas of Kenya's final tallying of the presidential results, under the leadership of Vice Chair Juliana Cherera, alleging ambiguity.

"The four of us are here and not at Bomas of Kenya where results will be announced because of the opaque nature of this phase has been handled,” Cherera stated.

“We, therefore, cannot take ownership of results that will be announced. However, we have an open door that people can go to court and because of the same, we urge Kenyans to be peaceful because the rule of the law is going to prevail,” she added.

Notably, Raila Odinga, of Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate who recently lost to William Samoei Ruto of Kenya Kwanza, refused to accept defeat on Tuesday terming Chebukati`s announcement as null and void.

This is after, he spoke to the media at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) and asserted that Wafula Chebukati, the chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), had broken the law by declaring the results of his own.
