While speaking at an interview with a local station, Kamanda said he is not planning to retire from active politics and he is ready to serve the people of Nairobi at a more advanced level as their Senator.

The former Starehe MP revealed that his decision to run for the Senate position was informed by the demand of the people of Nairobi.

"I have been listening to the people of Nairobi. You cannot say I'm old to lead the people of Nairobi yet they are telling me to lead them in the Senate," he said.

He also asked the Deputy President William Ruto-led UDA party to get ready for defeat in Nairobi noting that all political seats in the county will be taken by the Azimio la Umoja team.

"Nobody is thinking about Ruto in Nairobi. UDA will not get any political seat in all the 17 constituencies within Nairobi. This is because we have made a plan on how we will win the seats," he said.

Following his entry to the contest, Kamanda will now compete against ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and UDA's Karen Nyamu among other aspirants.
