A 36-year-old Elias Muriithi Kariuki on Tuesday, August 31 slashed his brother, Joseph Maina Kariuki to death following an argument over a three-seater couch possession.

The two brothers from  Kamakwa Location in Nyeri County entangled in a fight that resulted in Elias Muriithi Kariuki brandishing a machete and slashing his elder brother to death stated a report from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

The Incident followed an order from their mother, transferring the three-seater couch ownership from  Muriithi to  Maina.

“Acting under the instructions of their mother, Joseph Maina Kariuki, 36, is reported to have gone to the house of his younger brother Elias Muriithi Kariuki to repossess the couch, a move that the latter was opposed to.

“A quarrel had ensued before the two came to blows. In the process, Muriithi, 33, is said to have brandished a machete with which he occasioned serious cuts to his elder brother, before smashing his head,” DCI report states.

The suspect being under threat of drinking from the wrath of the angry resident, presented himself to Mathari Police post to break away from the angry residents.

Police officers arrested him and visited the scene where they found the deceased’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.

“The scene was processed by Crime Scene detectives, and legal procedures pending the arraignment of the suspect have since been initiated,” the DCI report stated.
