In the era of Khemer, a long time ago, food was reported to have been scarce. This forced the native people to look for other ways to feed themselves. Many of them fled the region, but some never had anywhere to go. They had only one option that is to go to the forest. They decided to go to the bush and see whatever they can find. Upon reaching the forest, spiders were the only walking creatures alive. They took on them directly and collected huge numbers. These spiders were tarantulas.
After apprehending spiders in large numbers, they desiccate them using a mixture of salt and sugar. This also gives the components a better taste. After drying, they are mixed with different spices, including garlic, before being fried in castor oil. Other seasoning ingredients are used to give it a better taste. The various parts of the body gain an attractive color, including the excreta, which provides it with a funny taste. It is one of the foods that is being marveled at by the locals.
This practice has become a norm until many people have solved rare spiders at their homes. They keep the young ones, and when they reach the maturity age, they are assembled before being taken to kitchens. You can find packaged spiders in various malls and supermarkets around the Cambodia capital and other leading cities.
