Ole's successor - Undisputed and recommendable candidates for the United job.

It would be uncouth to say that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has delivered the goods so far this season. A series of lucky wins at the beginning of the campaign seemed invigorating but with time the imperfections of this United lot began to showcase in the grimmest way possible. The atrocious 5-0 humbling at OT by Liverpool ignited fury within majority of United fanbase and the recent 2-0 derby loss to Manchester City might just be the final nail in the coffin. I have written a variety of managerial options but today I narrow it down to two of the best available managers that would be best suited for the United managerial role and would surely restore silverware to the dusty cabinets of the Theatre of dreams once our 99’ Treble winner is shown the door.

Zinedine Zidane (Zizou)

The Frenchman needs to introduction. His achievements both as a player and coach are impeccable. He has been out of office since end of last season. Rumors have stipulated that he is eyeing on the ‘Les Blues’ job but following the Nations League triumph Didier Deschamps might just stick around longer than anticipated. ZZ has enjoyed plenty of success having won 3 consecutive Champions League Titles, 2 La Liga Titles, 2 Copa del Rey titles as well as 2 Super Cup titles and its beyond unreasonable doubt that the United faithful will be enticed seeing him at Old Trafford.

Aside from his just being a serial winner, ZZ is a fantastic man manager, being able to make the players feel better about themselves especially those who aren’t in the first 11 as shown in Madrid when he maintained a big percentage of the dressing room throughout his tenure. He also provides a sense of balance in the dugout as his Real Madrid team displayed a gel of counter attack and possession type of football.

It would be really exciting seeing Zizou reunited with his old boys – CR7 and Raphael Varane, but the Frenchman clearly prefers a winning project and given the circumstances, United are genuinely far-fetched.

Ralf Rangnick

The German name needs no introduction. The former Hoffenheim and Red Bull manager might just be the most perfect suitable candidate to take charge of the United reins. He boasts a vast experience having managed Red Bull boys Salzburg and Leipzig respectively and helped establish their foundation and style of play. He is also seen as the ‘Godfather’, the forefather of German football with the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann drawing inspiration from the 63-year old. Klopp, Tuchel and Nagelsmann are currently the best in the business (alongside Pep Guardiola) but the fact that with the exception of Guardiola that they are all German clearly shows the dominance by Germans in this department. Ralf laid out the blueprint for German gegenpressing – style revolutionized by Jurgen Klopp at Mainz, Dortmund and now Liverpool. When asked about his style of play this is what he had to say;

“Well it’s very simple, Gegenpressing is a very proactive style of football, similar to what Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool employ(ed) under Klopp. We like to press high, with a very intense counter-pressure. When we have the ball, we do not like any square or back passes.

“The goalkeeper also should not be the one with the most contact on the ball. In almost every league and every country, the goalkeeper is the most technically limited football player on the pitch and therefore we have to make sure that he has the lowest contact with his feet.

“It is a fast, proactive, attacking, counter-attacking, counter-pressing exciting and entertaining style of football.”

Ralf is definitely not a renown figure among United fans but the German tactician has a plan for every situation, one that clearly Ole lacks. Christian Falk tweeted recently that Rangnick is still interested in taking the reins at United but direct contact is yet to be seen or heard.
