President Uhuru Kenyatta presided over the inauguration of the newly appointed Kenya Army Commander, LLieutenant Gen Peter Mbogo, at State House in Nakuru County.

Following the retirement of Lieutenant General Walter Koipaton on Wednesday, Uhuru appointed Mbogo as the Kenya Army Commander.

Following his appointment on July 13, 2018, Lt Gen Koipaton served four tours.

Lt Gen Mbogo was an Aide-de-Camp to both the late President Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta.

Following a meeting of Board One in the military, the president announced the changes. Lt Gen Njiru was appointed commander after being posted to the Defence Staff College last year.

Five other officers with the rank of brigadier were promoted to Maj General by the board.

Maj Gen David Tarus was promoted and named Western Command's General Officer Command to replace Maj Gen Joseph Kivunzi, who retired.

Maj Gen Juma Shee Mwinyikai was named the new Commander of East Command, succeeding Maj Gen Ayub Matiri, who was named Kenya's ambassador to Egypt in April.

Maj Gen Fredrick Leuria has been appointed as the assistant chief of defense forces in charge of operations, plans, doctrine, and training.

Maj Gen Mungai Nyaga has been named force commander of the East African Community regional force for the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Maj Gen Bernard Waliaula has been named director of the defense national security industry.

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) top brass, led by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Robert Kibochi, were among those present.

Maj. General John Ome, Commander of the Kenya Air Force, was among those present.

Others present included Kenya Air Force, Commander Maj. Gen. John Omenda, Kenya Navy Commander Maj. Gen. Jimson Mutai, and Cabinet Secretaries Eugene Wamalwa (Defense) and Ukur Yatani (National Treasury).

At the same time, Uhuru presided over the investiture of newly promoted Brigadier Zipporah Kalondu Kioko and Brigadier Alice Muringo Mate.
