Despite recently implemented government regulations intended to curb the rise in building collapses across the country, the calamity still occurs.

The managing director of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), Bernard Njiraini, announced that some of the basic building materials would see an improvement in quality. This is made up of structural steel, cement, and roofing shingles.

“We have a very elaborate way of protecting consumers against any manufacturers who will be attempting to reduce the quality of materials they are manufacturing.

“KEBS have a product certification scheme that requires manufacturers to establish quality control measures within their manufacturing establishment,” he stated.

Additionally, Njiraini outlawed the use of subpar materials, pointing out that it was a significant contributor to the country's building disasters.
