Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Mukaa Police commander Jacinta Mwirania oversaw the exhumation.

“Our teams have today arrested the main suspect, Nzimbi Mutungi, and his mother in connection with the killing,” said officer Mwirania.

The officer said that the DCI will be conducting further investigations to get to the bottom of the matter.

Michael Mwendwa's remains were discovered inside the toilet of his friend’s compound.

The discovery has horrified the village's residents who are shocked that Mwendwa's remains, who vanished in 2017, had been in the toilet the entire time.

The deceased's father, Michael Ndiku, expressed that his family had endured five years of suffering.

“I lost my son in 2017, and I have been looking for him until when we got wind that he could be in this compound, and so, together with the officers we came here and found his remains,” said Ndiku.

According to the police, Nzimbi and his mother are the primary suspects in the case and are to be brought before court to face the charges.
