The girl, who is reportedly a pupil at a school in Nakuru, got in touch with her principal when she learned that her parents wanted to make her get the operation.

The DCI said that the head girl alerted them about the incident sparking an investigation into the matter

"Through a phone call, she immediately alerted her school head girl who was with her parents in Thindigua, Kiambu county, about the evil plans hatched by her parents," the DCI wrote.

After the DCI sent their team to Narok to rescue the child after they received the notification.

"Immediately, the head girl called our detectives, and a team was dispatched to Narok, for the minor’s rescue."

The schoolgirl was then rescued and has been sent to a safe house where she will remain until further notice.

The girl’s parents have been detained and are being kept in police custody as investigations into the matter continue.

Last year after receiving a plea to legalize it from a female doctor, Kenya's High Court decided to maintain the ban on female genital mutilation.

“The implication of this is that FGM/C cannot be rendered lawful because the person on whom the act was performed consented to that act. No person can license another to perform a crime. The consent or lack thereof of the person on whom the act is performed has no bearing on a charge under the act,” said Lady Justice Achode.
