Politicians Barred From Meeting Sonko at Gilgil Police Station
The leaders led by Muthama were out to meet Sonko who is reportedly being held over various charges. Sonko is expected to spend his weekend in the prison after the court pushed his bail application to next week Tuesday.
Ex-Machakos Senate legislator Johnson Muthama among other political leaders on Friday failed in their attempts to see Mike Sonko at the Gilgil police station.
The team reportedly arrived at the station on Friday afternoon hours, hoping to meet and have a word with the embattled ex-county boss.
However, the team was in for a rude shock after their plan never materialized. Sonko is set to spend the weekend at the prison, awaiting his Tuesday's court arraignment.
On Tuesday next week, Kamiti Prisons' court will be hearing an application seeking to detain Sonko for a month pending investigations.
At the same time, Kiambu court will be looking into Sonko's bail application for an assault charge. Sonko's legal team recently protested the prosecution's application.
Through the application by Sonko's defense team, lawyers questioned why he had been taken to Kahawa West court, instead of Gigiri station where the court had stated.
Led by John Khaminwa, the team described the police move as an abuse of powers, while presenting the magistrate with numerous books to support his argument for Sonko's release.
