Kenya`s president Elect William Ruto welcomed  Meru governor-elect Kawira Mwangaza to his Kenya kwanza party on Friday 19th August.

Ruto Thanked Kawira as he welcomed her to the Kenya Kwanza party.

"Thank you Meru County Governor-elect Kawira Mwangaza for choosing to work with Kenya Kwanza to drive Meru and Kenya forward, Karen, Nairobi County".

Kawira was elected as the Meru governor on an independent ticket. She outdid incumbent Kiraitu Murungi and outgoing Senator Mithika Linturi to become the first female to hold the seat in the county.

Mwangaza who is also a bishop at Baite Family Fellowship Church in Meru County recalled how her opponents stated that she couldn't make it in attaining more votes.

"They said I cannot run a County but I told both Kiraitu that I would get more votes than him at the ballot," said Mwangaza.

Kawira revealed in a recent interview on a national TV station in the country that she rose from a humble background and at one point she became a househelp to one of her wealthy relatives in order to servive.

"I worked as a house help for almost a year. Afterward, I got the chance to enroll at Moyale Girls Secondary School. We were the pioneer class. Four years later, I emerged as the best candidate in Marsabit district with a C+.".

However, Kawira`s move of joining Kenya kwanza comes barely a day after, Ali Roba of the United Democratic Movement (UDM), joined the Kenya Kwanza alliance on Thursday, August 18.

In a post shared by President-elect, William Ruto, he welcomed the members of the party warmly to his side at Karen, Nairobi.

"We salute the United Democratic Movement (UDM) leadership for abandoning Azimio La Umoja and joining Kenya Kwanza," Ruto stated.

UDM won 45 seats in the recently concluded general election. Among them are Mandera governor-elect Mohamed Adan and Khalif Mohamud Ali of Wajir.

Roba won the Mandera County senatorial seat on the party ticket, while Abass Sheikh Mohammed won the Wajir County seat.

Across the country, the party won seven Parliamentary seats and 34 Member of County Assembly (MCA) seats.
