President Uhuru Kenyatta has gazetted the team that will spearhead the implementation of the Report of the Presidential Taskforce on Review of Power Purchase Agreements.

The president appointed the immediate former Chairman of Kenya Pipeline Corporation Board, John Ngumi, to lead the Committee in clearing the Kenya Power and Lighting Company scandals.

The team shall also comprise of; state House chief of staff Nzioka Waita, and retired justice Aaron Ringera.

The publication was a result of a report submitted to the President on the state of the ailing Kenya Power. 

Other members of the committee disclosed are; Gordon Kihalangwa, Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Kennedy Ogeto, Anne Eriksson, Dr. James Mcfie, Mohammed Nyaoga, Dr. Elizabeth Muli, Eng. Stanley Kamau, Wanjiku Wakogi, Eng. James Mwangi, Yida Kemoli, Dr. Caroline Kittony, Sachen Gudka, Eng. Elizabeth Rogo, Dr. John Mutua.

The committee will oversee the execution of the recommendations of the Presidential Taskforce, and the joint Secretaries will be  Jasper Mbiuki, Lillian Abishai, Anne Ikenye, and Elsie Mworia.

Lawyer Donald Kipkorir had on Thursday, October 7 suggested that The administrative woes facing Kenya Power can be a thing of the past if the management is left in the hands of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel. 

The sentiments came hours after the government announced a raft of measures to lower the cost of electricity in the country, following widespread concerns about the high cost of the commodity.

Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, said the government had frozen the contracting of additional independent power producers by the company.

At the same time, the state-controlled agency had been ordered to review the existing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
