According to AFSC, the Professor's efforts have proved to be advantageous to many Kenyans, and it is now time to acknowledge them globally. Were is the founder of Uzima Foundation and has initially served the country as the National Aids Control Council (NACC) chair.

Jebii Kilimo, the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) of the Ministry of Gender, applauded Professor Were for her dedication to curbing the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country. The government had appreciated the Professor just before the nomination was revealed.

"The journey started is on the course; feel sincerely thanked by the government for navigating the National HIV/AIDS response in Kenya," remarked CAS Kilimo.

About the nomination, Miriam Were exposed gratitude to AFSC and QPSW for choosing her for the Noble Peace Prize.

She firmly believes that empowering individuals and communities is a way of promoting peace and health.

"I believe in the community approach as the modality for promoting both peace and health by empowering individuals and communities to lead in solving their problems including those articulated in the sustainable development goals," she said.
