The attack by Russia has drawn significant attention to the citizens of Ukraine, who have been afraid of the war escalating to dangerous levels. We see some Ukrainian citizens fleeing the country to safety after the attacks, fearful of what is in store for them in their country.

On the 24th of February 2022, the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, declared war on Ukraine, followed by the first massive attack on the nation. The Russian president claimed the war was revenge for the molestation that Russian citizens underwent in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. "Our mission is: protection of people who throughout eight years were subjected to abuse and genocide from Kyiv regime," retorted the president of Russia. He further says the war targets the military stations, not the Ukrainian citizens.

The war has elicited fear in different parts of the world, with netizens trying to relate it to the start of the third World War. Twitter users are fostering solidarity with the Ukrainian nation by raising awareness using hashtags and posting the Ukrainian flag. Some countries have seen their citizens hold demonstrations on the streets to show their support to Ukraine.

On the said day of the attack, Russia heightened its militancy against Ukraine by firing missiles to the capital of the country, damaging properties and bringing physical and emotional suffering to the citizens, an attack with an intensity that has not been witnessed since the Nazi wars in 1941. Russia lodged the recent attack on Kyiv city of Ukraine, where the missiles dispersed, burnt down, and destroyed the world's biggest plane, 'Mriya,' which the citizens plan to rebuild someday.

After the attack, the Ukrainian citizens were left devastated trying to lead an everyday life. This challenging moment is where these citizens are burdened emotionally and financially; any support from other nations gives them peace and joy. Ukraine's military watch has been on the lookout to protect its citizens from harm. Videos online have captured the citizens' struggles concerning the strained relationship with their neighbor, Russia. Despite the claims that it was targeting civilians, the attacks have led to the death of over 350 people.

In a bid to protect the country from the war, the Ukrainian representatives have agreed to negotiate with the Russian government to see if they can iron out their issues. The talks are to convince the Russian government to withdraw their military forces from Ukraine and put an end to the general attack.

Is the Kenyan government prepared for such attacks in the future? It would be wise if the Kenyan citizens and government came up with a couple of effective contingency plans and strategies to be executed if they face such crises if none is in place so far. A crisis befalling like that of the covid 19 pandemic will once more bring the Kenyan economy down to its knees, subjecting them to more challenges than before.
