Mohammed Badi, director general of Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS), said that Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja will decide whether the entrance to Uhuru and Central Parks will be at a fee or not.

Badi said that it will rely on the new governor's idea for increasing revenue in regard to payment concerns to the parks.

The parks have been closed from October 2021 for renovations to take place and currently, more than 85% of both parks have been completed.

NMS is giving Uhuru and Central Parks a top-notch, contemporary makeover using its own contractors for recreational purposes. MPs allocated Sh. 1 billion for the renovations of both parks.

Uhuru Park will contain well-kept trees, mowed grass, improved paths, and green areas. The park's lily pond will be transformed into the Uhuru Aquascape aquarium and the big artificial lake will be turned into a shoreline complete with a restaurant serving food in Swahili.

A Nyatiti-shaped events garden, an outdoor amphitheatre with an audiovisual screen, and a kids' play area with bounce houses and merry-go-rounds will all be present.

The monuments honoring the Mau Mau liberation warriors and the renowned Nyayo statue will remain in place.

There will be a botanical space with all varieties of flowers and plants to showcase Kenya’s floral richness.

There will be management offices, meeting rooms, restrooms, workout areas, and tourism attractions available.

Children will be allowed to read at the outdoor library in Central Park, which will also be used for book releases.

Abdi Ibrahim Guyo, a former leader of the Nairobi Majority, proposed a motion to shut down the parks immediately and restore them to their previous splendor. He claimed that the parks risked losing their beauty, historical relevance, and reputation if they are not swiftly restored.

Last Monday, NMS announced the reopening of Central Park and Uhuru Park after nearly a year of closure and welcomed Kenyans to a fireworks display.
