Senate Special Committee recommends Impeachment of Wajir Governor

A Senate Special Committee has recommended the impeachment of Wajir Governor Mohammed Abdi after he was found guilty of gross misconduct. However, the committee found the MCAs failed to validate the second charge of abuse of office and gross misconduct.

The panel was chaired by Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni where they tabled the report on Abdi's impeachment on Monday.

The panel also found the governor to have violated the right to health of the people of Wajir County.

"The committee further found that the allegations meet the threshold for the impeachment of the governor under Article 181 of the Constitution," the report read in part.

The MCAs accused the governor of, squandering coronavirus funds and running down the health care system in the county.

Wajir MCAs also accused the Wajir Governor’s wife and children of being at the center of what they called a "tender graft web" that threatens to entangle him.

The MCAs detailed how the governor’s wife whom they described as the ultimate leader and de facto authority allegedly has been influencing tenders and receiving kickbacks.
