Senator Malala Accuses the over 25 Governors of being Threatened by the State to Support Raila

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has now claimed that the move by more than 25 governors to endorse ODM leader Raila Odinga was a result of threats from State machinery and not genuine support.

Senator Malala Accuses the over 25 Governors of being Threatened by the State to Support Raila

While speaking on Citizen TV's Daybreak show on Tuesday, Malala alleged that the governors were coerced into supporting Odinga's presidential bid with threats that graft cases could be initiated against them should they fail to comply.

Malala said, "I saw governors lining up and flanking the right honourable Raila Odinga but when you look at the combination of those governors it does not reflect the real voter on the ground because governors do not hold a view to vote for their respective counties."

"... I can tell you that most of the governors are being controlled by remote. Most of them have cases in the EACC therefore they are being told if they do not support the state project we shall initiate your corruption cases," he added.

He argued that the deep-state-control is evident as governors supporting a different political party will be probed by the EACC and the DCI but the probe stops once they defect to Odinga's camp.

Malala, however, said that, the move by the over 25 governors to endorse Odinga will have zero impact on the 2022 general election.

"We have seen governors who are supporting a different political formation EACC and DCI are at their doorstep but when they come to the 'Upperhill laundry' the DCI retreats. When you see governors lining up behind the State project it has no impact we are concentrating on the people," he stated.

The more than 20 county bosses announced their alignment to the Azimio la Umoja camp on Monday after a meeting with Mr. Odinga in Naivasha.
