The structure collapsed on Wednesday morning, trapping tenants at one end of the building.

Kiambu Fire Department first responders arrived on the scene of the collision and began rescue operations.

During the rescue operation, two people were confirmed dead. The area has been blocked off by police to keep the people out.

According to reports, county fire officers have requested reinforcement from the Kenya Army and the National Youth Service to help them in their rescue efforts.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) demolished a part of the building to make room for the construction of the Eastern Bypass into a dual roadway.

A five-storey building under construction in Kinoo, Kiambu County, fell in March 2022 after leaning on an occupied flat adjacent.

Two weeks later, another five-storey building in Juja, which housed around 50 Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) students, began to sink in and collapse due to a faulty foundation, causing extensive damage and property loss.
