According to Governor Rasanga, the mortuary, which has a capacity of accomodating only 16 bodies, is already overburdened, and there are currently 24 unclaimed bodies, necessitating the move. He also stated that they believe the bodies do not belong to the people of Siaya since nobody has reported the case of a missing body.

On Friday 28, Governor Rasanga informed the press that the Yala morgue currently had a total of 38 bodies, including the 24 unclaimed ones recovered from River Yala in the last year.

He also requested in-depth inquiries by government investigative authorities into the circumstances in which those bodies ended up in the Yala River, so that the appropriate action could be done against the culprits.

He has further requested that the investigations be accelerated to allow for the quick identification of the dead and, where possible, their release to the family, with those who remain unclaimed being disposed off according to the law.
