At least 20 soldiers broke into the Myanmar Aerospace Engineering University in Meiktila on an early Sunday morning.

According to the students, the attack occurred at around 2:30 am, when the soldiers arrived in three military vehicles and smashed open a lock on the gate at the entrance to the university campus.

Also, one an identified student who witnessed the whole ordeal state as follows: “We think they came to arrest the rector. But before they could reach the staff housing area, they ran into the teachers and staff of the university,” he said, the teachers were told to “behave intelligently” and were warned not to share CCTV footage of the raid or anything else that could “damage the reputation of the Tatmadaw.”\

It is also believed that the CCTV video that was captured at the time of the attack was confirmed pulled down upon investigations.

Almost all of the university’s instructors and other staff are said to have joined the nationwide civil disobedience movement against military rule. This fateful incident happened just days after a similar attempt to arrest the rector of Mandalay Medical University last Thursday was made.

Myanmar attacks have been on the surge especially at night which has left several citizens injured, one dead and others left homeless. The attacks have been targeting government ministers, election officials, and senior public servants opposed to the military takeover on February 1, 2021.

On the other hand, it is now believed that what could have attributed to the University Night attack is due to its military stronghold.
