Former Nairobi Governor will now spend two more nights in the police custody at Gigiri Police station awaiting the court ruling which scheduled on 4th February.

Ex-Nairobi Governor denied all twelve charges raised against him at Kiambu law courts.

Sonko was accused of assault, robbery with violence, and destruction of people’s property in Nairobi Buru Buru Estate back in 2019.

Sonko appeared before the Kiambu senior magistrate Stella Ataambo on Tuesday after spending a night at the police station.

The prosecution side was seeking to detain the impeached governor until they conclude the investigation, prevent him from accessing witnesses as he can intimidate them among others.

Sonko presented himself to the DCI yesterday in the afternoon for questing after spending a better part of Monday trying to find a court order to bar the detectives from interrogating him but all in vain.

The former Governor had been summoned to record a statement with regard to his remarks on the 2017 poll chaos.

Sonko had claimed that he and the Interior Security PS Karanja Kibicho played a role in causing hooliganism and mayhem in 2017.

Currently, Sonko is held under tight security as the court proceedings continue.
