Student Who Sneaked Teargas Canister Into School Pleads Guilty

A student from St. Charles Lwanga Secondary School in Changamwe, Mombasa, who sneaked a teargas canister into school has admitted to the offense after denying the charges.

The schoolboy was charged with possessing public property and accused of sneaking a tear gas canister into the school, entered a guilty plea before Mombasa Principal Magistrate Vincent Adet.

Days after denying the allegations in front of a different court, the boy came before the magistrate and informed the court that he wished to change his plea.

According to the allegations, the accused was accused of possessing one tear gas canister on June 3, 2022, at St. Charles Lwanga Secondary School in Changamwe Sub-County, Mombasa County, which is believed to have been illegally obtained from the National Police Service.

The student was also charged with a second count of committing a careless act that caused harm in violation of section 243(c) of the penal code.

According to the prosecution, the suspect toyed with the canister inside the school, putting the lives of other kids in peril.

The explosion of the tear gas canister resulted in the injuries of five Form Four students.

According to the police, the victims, who also included the suspect, only had minor wounds and received medical care at a nearby hospital before being released.

On June 29, the defendant will get a sentence.
