Supporters Of Anyang' Nyong'o Advocate For ODM To Give Him A Direct Ticket In Kisumu

On Wednesday, Deputy Governor Mathews Owili, during the launch of the Uhuru Business Park market complex, urged the ODM to give Kisumu’s Governor, Anyang' Nyong'o, a direct ticket to the seat.

This is to enable the resources used in the governor’s campaign to be allocated to Raila Odinga's presidential campaign.

“There is every indication that Governor Nyong’o will triumph over his sole competitor,” Mathew Owili said.

Supporters of Anyang’ Nyong’o, led by the deputy governor, warned against holding party primaries to gratify a person at the risk of assuring Raila's win.

According to a poll commissioned by the party's National Elections Board, Governor Nyong'o received 90% of the vote, compared to 5% for his competitor, Ken Obura.

“We should not waste money in areas where there is a clear winner but instead channel the funds to ODM and Azimio la Umoja campaigns ahead of the August 9 General Election,” Matthew opined.

Governor Nyong'o is part of Mr. Odinga's advisory council, which has seven members: Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Prof Makau Mutua, former Speaker Francis ole Kaparo, former head of the public service Sally Kosgei, and SK Macharia.

The Advisory Council, similar to the 2007 "Pentagon" team, is anticipated to work on a grand manifesto and a winning strategy to rally support for the ODM leader across the country.

He urged Mr. Odinga's followers to unify behind his fifth presidential campaign for him to win and for money to be allocated to the campaign.

“It is unfortunate that some people are using the proceeds of ill-gotten funds to create confusion and scuttle Mr. Odinga’s chances.”

“If there is any money for nominations, it should be channeled to ODM and the Azimio coalition to help in getting votes for Mr. Odinga,” he said.

Prof Nyong'o and Siaya Senator James Orengo, according to Kisumu Central MP Fred Ouda, should not be subjected to party primaries since they need to focus their efforts on the national campaign.

"Mr. Odinga, alongside Prof Nyong'o and Mr. Orengo, have fought so hard for this country and should be recognized for that," he said

Seth Kanga, MCA Milimani Market, also supports that Prof. Nyong'o should be given a direct ticket.
