Taliban: We have full control of Afghanistan

The Panjshir valley in Afghanistan was the last remaining pocket of territory the Taliban had yet to establish full control. As of Monday, September 6, 2021, the Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid announced that the group successfully quashed the remaining resistance within Afghanistan, and by claiming control over the Panjshir valley, the country was now under their full control. Technically with this victory, they have control of Afghanistan’s 34 territories.

Engaged battlefield operations in the previous weeks have occurred mostly on the north of Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital, between the Taliban forces and resistant fighters. The NRF (National Resistant Front), representing Afghanistan’s resistant forces, acknowledged undertaking considerable wartime losses and called for a ceasefire.

Social media content reveals Taliban’s members in front of the governor of Panji’s official compound. They are indicating the group’s control. However, the National Resistance Front (NRF) spokesperson dismisses these claims of the Taliban’s complete control, stating that opposition forces are still adamant in their endeavours and will continue to fight.

On September 5, 2021, NRF’s leader Ahmad Massoud argues that he is ready for talks with the Taliban; the fundamental reason is to stop the atrocities if the militia group ceased their violent operations. The leader, including the former Afghan security members and local militias, declared their willingness to stop fighting if each party agreed to reduce the death toll.
