President Samia Suluhu has said Tanzania will announce its position on the Covid-19 pandemic soon but it will depend on what the experts will say.

President Samia said the country cannot isolate itself from what is happening across the globe and neither can it consume foreign information without analyzing it.

‘We will form a committee of experts to tell us how the situation is and what the world is advising us to do. We cannot isolate ourselves like an island and we cannot receive what is being brought to us without analyzing it and doing our research,” Suluhu said.

Tanzania’s Head of State was speaking on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed state officials at the statehouse in Dar es Salaam.

The move is seen as a shift of policy by the country under President Suluhu’s leadership from the previous hard stand on the virus by her predecessor the late John Pombe Magufuli.

The last time Tanzania issued an update on Coronavirus was in May 2020 when the country had recorded 500 cases and 20 deaths.

The former Vice President said her country cannot be the only one without Covid-19 updates, hence the need to pronounce itself.

The president also directed the communication authority to lift the ban on all the media houses that had been closed for breaking the laws.
