Team Kenya Tops on Medal Standings of the World Athletics U-20 Championships

Team Kenya has finished top on medal standings at the just concluded World Athletics U20 Championships held at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

Kenya, who were the hosts of the 2021 edition of the World Athletics U-20 Championship events bagged a total of 16 medals where eight of the total medals were golds, 1 silver, and seven bronzes.

The final day of the competitions was on Sunday, August 22, which was arguably Team Kenya's most successful as the country won three golds, with Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Purity Chepkirui, and Amos Serem finishing first in their respective disciplines.

Finland finished second on the medal list having won a total of five medals, with four of those being golds, with Nigeria completing the top three podiums.

Other countries that were impressive include Ethiopia, Jamaica, and South Africa all of which bagged three golds each.

The encouraging records for Kenya came only days after the country sealed a top-place finish in Africa during the recently completed Tokyo Olympics.
