According to area police commander Cleti Kimaiyo, officers searched a man's residence who had recently been buried after receiving a tip and found the weapons there.

"We recovered the weapons in two houses at the home of the deceased. His two widows helped in the search efforts after we got wind of the information from members of the public," Kimaiyo said.

The police claimed that Lydia Ghati, one of the widows, gave the police an AK-47 gun and 16 rounds of ammunition. The second weapon, a 1985 mini brown pistol, was allegedly discovered hidden in a box.

In Josephine Mogeira’s house, the other wife, the police found four tear gas canisters and a khaki rifle sling after they broke the locks of a safe where the weapons had been kept.

"When we visited the home in the Namba area, Mogeira led us to a strong room where a safe was found," police added.

The police collected the weapons which are due for a ballistic examination.
