The commissioners include Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang'aya, Francis Wanderi, and Irene Masit.

According to IEBC Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera, who spoke from the Serena Hotel, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, overruled them and insisted on declaring the results despite the issues they raised.

"We declined because the aggregation resulted in a total exceeding 100 per cent which cast out on the accuracy of source of figures tallied and when we demanded that we verify our records, the chairman declined, overruled us and insisted on announcing the results," she said.

The commissioners gave justifications for their choice to reject the results, claiming that the results did not include totals for registered voters, votes cast, or rejected votes and that the results had been aggregated in an incorrect mathematical manner.

"Contrary to the constitution and legislation, the results declared did not indicate the number of registered voters, total number of votes cast or number of rejected votes if any. In this regard, the results by Chebukati lacked the total number of votes cast to support the percentages scored by the four candidates.”

Cherera said the total number of votes cast as per Chebukati’s announcement was over by 0.01 percent, or 142 000 votes.

"The total percentage from figures displayed by the four leaders is 100.01% which translates to 142,000. This will make a significant difference in the final results," Cherera said.

They also asserted that the commission was not given access to the final results of the presidential election.
