Residents of Nairobi County have been urged to turn up in large numbers for the Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccine as infections continue to go up.

The National Multi-Agency Command Centre on Covid-19 through the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) has set up a three-day vaccination outreach in seven sub-counties starting today.

This includes Ruaraka, Makadara, Roysambu , Kasarani, Embakasi Central, Embakasi East and Embakasi West subcounties.

At least 340,452 Nairobi residents had by August 4, received the vaccine according to the Nairobi Covid-19 pandemic data outlook report, by NMS, for the period between March 12 last year to August 4.

Men continue leading in taking the jab with 184,148 being vaccinated while 156,175 are women and 122 intersexes.

At least 40,424 Health workers have gotten the 19 AstraZeneca vaccines, followed by 25,268 Security officers, Teachers 24,409, and others being the majority at 90,324.

Out of the 1.2 million doses distributed around the country, Nairobi received the bulk with 393,000 doses allocated to the area.

For the Sputnik Vaccine at least 1,599 people have been vaccinated in Nairobi; 621 females, 977 male, and 1 intersex

Sputnik V is a vaccine developed by Russia’s Gamaleya National Centre of Epidemiology and Microbiology.
