Senior Principal Magistrate Lilian Arika has released Tiaty Member of Parliament (MP) William Kamket on Sh500,000 cash bail.

The politician, on the other hand, has been denied entry to his Tiaty home as police investigate his role in the Laikipia skirmishes.

After the security situation in Laikipia and its environs deteriorated, at least 8 people were killed and hundreds were displaced Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrested Kamket from his house in Tiaty on Wednesday.

According to police, Kamket incited and organized illegal herders to attack civilians in Laikipia conservancies.

Former Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel was also detained and charged with hate speech in connection with the incident.

According to the charge sheet, the former legislator made inciteful remarks against one of Kenya's communities on various dates between July 11th and 17th this year during a TV show aired by MAA TV.

Lempurkel referred to the group as "those folks whose feet are afflicted with jiggers," according to the prosecution.

He, on the other hand, disputed the charges and was released on an Sh150,000 cash bond. On September 22, 2021, the case will be discussed.
