Tips When Dating An Introvert

An introvert is someone who tends to self-reflect and is more interested in one’s own mental self, unlike the extrovert who primarily obtain gratification from others.

Introverts tend to be more comfortable in their skin and do not mind being alone. There is a perception that introverts are hard to date however, this article offers some tips on how to enjoy dating an introvert.

1. Be Supportive
Introverts do not like public gatherings. I remember when I was in high school and I would to music festivals after a performance I would go hide out in the bus with a novel. Because I feel very self-conscious of myself. So if you are an extrovert and you know who you're dating is an introvert be aware of how much effort this is on their part if you take them to a bar or a house party. So don’t ditch them the moment you
get there to try and be there for them and don’t leave them alone for long.

2. Respect Boundaries
I can’t tell you how many times this has been a problem not only in relationships but also in friendships. Sometimes as an introvert, they may need space to recharge and reflect. And sometimes this could also mean time away from you. And as an extrovert especially you might think that there’s a problem but it has nothing to do with you they just need to be by themselves sometimes. Be understanding, and allow your partner some space.

3.Be Patient
Extroverts share easily. They are able to talk about their fears and tell their deepest darkest secrets quite easily but this isn’t the same with introverts. Introverts don’t share as easily because they are private people so you need to be patient. It takes time for them to trust you. The best way to actually get to know them is probably to just ask them a question about themselves and they will answer.

4. Don’t Be Afraid of Silence
Since extroverts don’t like silence they may be uncomfortable when an introvert is
quiet. But there is such a thing as comfortable and introverts love the silence as long as it’s not after a fight. According to Bustle, extroverts like it when introverts express enthusiasm and gratefulness, so extroverts may interpret silence as disapproval or a lack of enthusiasm. But don’t let this frustrate you, they just need time to ponder over issues.

5. Bottled up Anger
According to Idiva.com introverts usually struggle with expressing any anger with their partner and end up keeping everything bottled up. All that pent-up frustration, however, does see the light of day, when they can’t take it anymore, and finally explode! While releasing all that tension is good for them, it’s obviously not the most pleasant experience for you. What you can do at this point is to try to also not to lose your temper when they explode because most likely you will not win that argument and with one wrong word the relationship could end.
