Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two suspected criminals in association with the murder of a JKUAT student.

According to Juja DCIO commander Richard Mwaura, the couple was chosen from a group of seven people who were apprehended by detectives after Joel Juma, a fourth-year Industrial Chemistry major, died.

The two are expected to be arraigned at Thika Law Courts today.

Following a manhunt launched after the murder of the student, undercover agents seized Joseph Muchiri, alias Agent, 22, and Paul Mbatha, 20, this morning. The first suspect was seized from his hideout in Kiandutu, Thika town, while the second was arrested in Gachororo, Juja area, as he tried to escape our dragnet that had been extended to Kiambu County.” The Statement went on to state.

Mwaura, the DCI officer from juja calmed the JKUAT students who have threatened to conduct peaceful demonstrations today saying that security will be beefed in the area.

The JKUAT students are protesting against the death of their fellow student saying that they needed security in Juja.

There is no security here irrespective of what time it is and there is no guarantee that you can go about your business without being attacked by goons. We need security here; we came here to study and not to be robbed and murdered,” a JKUAT student told reporters.

According to police accounts, Juma was killed at 2 a.m. on Tuesday when he and his fiancée went to obtain exam revision materials from a colleague who lived nearby.
