Uasin Gishu County MCAs Refrains from Voting on the BBI Bill

The move by the Uasin Gishu County MCAs comes after 27 Members of County Assembly supported the report tabled on the House by the Legal Committee to neither vote Yes or No on the BBI Bill therefore abstaining.

Only 19 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) voted to oppose the Legal Committee report where 17 of them are nominated members.

Uasin Gishu County Assembly held the public participation exercise on the BBI Bill last week where members of the public split on whether to pass or reject the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2020.

The move makes Uasin Gishu County be the first one in the country to abstain from voting on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Bill.

The move by the County was expected being that this is Deputy President’s Home County and he has on numerous occasions said that BBI is not a priority for Kenyans right now.
