In a statement issued by the party’s Secretary-General Veronica Maina, UDA says its key agents have suffered at the hands of police.

“United Democratic Alliance (UDA) key agents in Rurii Ward, Nyandarua County, Brian Mbugua, and Daniel Githinji have this morning been arrested by police outside Rurii Polytechnic and taken to Ol Kalou police station,” UDA SG said in a press release.

UDA Secretary-General says their agents have been harassed and intimidated at various polling stations across the ward.

At Mugumoini polling station, UDA says its agents have been barred from entering and individuals purporting to be its agents have taken charge.

SG Maina has also complained over several roadblocks mounted across the ward saying police are using them to intimidate voters.

UDA now wants the IEBC to take stern action and ensure an equal playground for all the candidates.

“We urge the IEBC to take note of these intimidations and condemn them for what they are; abuse of power by the executive,” she said.

However, UDA has urged its supporters to turn up in large numbers at various polling stations Rurii ward to vote for their candidate and safeguard their democracy against interference and intimidation.

Rurii Ward by-election has been seen as a two-horse race between UDA candidate Muraya Githaiga and the Jubilee candidate Peter Thinji.
