President Uhuru Kenyatta has started reorganizing his cabinet after resignations by several cabinet secretaries.

Most of the cabinet secretaries resigned to seek public office in the August polls later in the year.

Trade and industrialization Secretary Cabinet, Betty Maina is the first to be given more responsibilities as the cabinet secretary for the East African Community and regional developments docket in an acting capacity.

The industrialization ministry confirmed the news through their Twitter handle.

Cabinet Secretary for Industrialization and Trade Betty Maina this morning took over additional responsibilities as the acting CS for East African Community.” read the post.

The East African Community docket was left empty after the resignation of the former cabinet secretary, Adan Mohammed, who resigned to seek an elective position at the Mandera gubernatorial race.

I have this evening tendered my resignation as Cabinet Secretary, to H.E the President to pursue other roles in the Development of our Nation as a candidate for Mandera Governor in the upcoming general elections.” He said

Other cabinet secretaries who resigned to run for elective positions in the August polls include former Water and Irrigation cabinet secretary, Sicily Kariuki and former Devolution cabinet secretary, Charles Keter.
