The first-ever council meeting, according to Raila Odinga's Presidential Campaign Secretariat Press Secretary Dennis Onsarigo, will bring together major political heavyweights within the Azimio grouping.

The forum's agenda will include a discussion of important problems inside the coalition as well as the resolution of glaring disagreements that are endangering the partnership.

The Azimio la Umoja Coalition Party flagbearer and ODM party leader Raila Odinga will attend the first Azimio Council meeting tomorrow Thursday 21st, April 2022,” read part of the statement.

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, KANU national chairman, NARC-Martha Kenya's Karua, Mombasa governor Hassan Joho, and his Kitui counterpart Charity Ngilu are among the leaders slated to attend the high-level meeting.

Wafula Wamunyinyi, leader of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) and Kanduyi legislator, Sabina Chege, Murang'a Woman Rep Sabina Chege, Abdi Noor Omar Farah and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, and Naomi Shaban, Taveta MP.

With growing discontent among partner parties, as evidenced by recent public spats, the summit will focus on the best route ahead for the Azimio family.

The subject of Raila's running mate continues to be a source of consternation for President Kenyatta, who has already backed the former Premier as his chosen successor.

Some of the leaders being touted as potential Odinga deputies are Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, and Agriculture CS Peter Munya.

The issue has already ruffled some feathers inside the coalition, with different factions supporting different candidates.

Leaders of the Wiper party, for example, including Kalonzo, believe they are deserving of the slot. Dr Alfred Mutua, the leader of the Maendeleo Chap Chap party in the Ukambani region, has nominated himself as the ideal candidate to replace Raila on the vote.

On the other hand, a group of Azimio women leaders, led by Kitui governor Charity Ngilu, have recommended Martha Karua as the ideal candidate for the coalition's running mate position. However, a day following their announcement, a Wiper-affiliated wing disputed Ngilu's claim.

Yesterday, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana took out to complain how hard it has been working with the Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka adding that he will have to comply with Musyoka’s demands.
