University Student Apprehended For Impersonation

Brian Angwenyi, a 20-year-old Kisii University third-year student, was taking the English paper one for a KCSE candidate at Kiamabundu High School in Kisii Central's Nyaribari Chache.

While the candidate is on the run, the suspect is being interrogated in the Kisii Central Police Station's DCI headquarters.

The right candidate had enrolled as a private candidate and was being hosted at the exam center, according to the OCPD. The suspect, however, was flushed out due to restrictions that require students to register using passport images.

Area Sub-County Police Chief Peter Kimani said charges are being prepared and that the suspect would be arraigned once the investigation is completed.

He told journalists outside his office, "We are in the basic stages of the investigation, and as soon as we conclude, he will be in court."

Investigating detectives are piecing together the evidence, according to Kimani, and will charge the suspect with impersonation in court on Tuesday, March 14.

Furthermore, the OCPD stated that the suspect would serve as an example to anyone who attempted to cheat on the national exam. A multi-agency team was working undercover to apprehend any suspects, he said.

"I'd like this to serve as a lesson to anyone who believes they can cheat on this exam. We have a multi-agency team working undercover throughout the many testing centers to catch such people," Kimani said.

On Monday, the applicants for the 2021 KCSE began their written exams.

The tests will be administered in 10 413 examination centers around the country, with the papers distributed through 483 distribution centers.
