UPDATE: Waridi Bus Driver that Killed 11 People Accused of Recklessness

Waridi bus driver that got involved in a fatal road accident on Tuesday 16th November at Thura bridge along Siak, Muminji ward Mbeere North constituency, Embu County further claiming 11 lives, has been accused of reckless driving.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident could have been avoided if the driver could have been keen enough.

Area Member of County Assembly (MCA), Newton Kariuki stated that the driver of the bus dubbed the 'Waridi' bus plying Kirie-Siakago-Nairobi route attempted to jump-start the bus in the middle of a hill, shortly after refueling it.

"The bus ran out of fuel as it climbed the hill. The driver then went to look for fuel to refill the vehicle. After loading the fuel, he tried to ignite the vehicle, but it failed. He decided to jump-start it in reverse," Kariuki said.

Other fresh details by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Regional Director for Eastern, Isaiah Nakoru stated that the vehicle was declared unroadworthy in 2020.

"We discovered that this bus was not permitted to operate because the last time it underwent inspection was in 2020, and it was deemed unroadworthy," he stated.

However, from the accident, 11 people lost their lives instantly while 9 sustained serious injuries as 41 escaped the fatal accident unhurt.

The deceased were transferred to the Embu Referral Hospital Mortuary, while the injured were taken to the Embu Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.
