US Embassy Kenya Warns its Citizens Amid Insecurity Issues in the Country

United States American Embassy in the country has warned its citizens over insecurity issues in the country further urging them to be vigilant in tourist-heavy areas such as shopping malls, hotels, airports, clubs, restaurants, transportation hubs, schools, and places of worship.

“Public events, such as demonstrations and celebratory gatherings, are also at a higher risk for violence,” said the embassy in a statement on Friday.

It also asked  Americans to check their personal security plans, be vigilant of their surroundings at all times, and keep an eye on the news for updates.

This comes barely a day after the French and German Embassy also warned its citizens over the same to avoid public areas and crowded places it classified as possible hotspots.

The Embassy warned of a potential terror attack targeting Western citizens in Nairobi in a travel notice dated Thursday, January 27.

They cautioned their citizens to avoid red zoned areas such as restaurants, leisure centers, hotels, commercial centers among other most visited areas within Nairobi.

However, on Friday 28th, the Police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities through the service’s toll-free numbers: 999, 911.112, and 0800722203 after the report that was issued by at least the three European countries.

National Police Service spokesperson Bruno Shioso, assured the public that security has been beefed up.

“The Service has re-engineered her police units in line with modern-day policing dynamics. Challenges and emerging threats. Security operations that ensure that imminent attacks are forestalled proactively remain our priority,” said Shioso on Friday.
