US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman, Foreign Affairs CS Raychelle Omamo, Trade CS Betty Maina were present during the discussions held at the Statehouse.

Senator Coons, who is in charge of a congressional delegation made up of members of the US Senate and House, praised President Kenyatta for ensuring that there was peace and calm during the election.

“We are encouraged by the peace Kenya has continued to experience during this period,” said Senator Coons.

President Kenyatta said Kenya will remain consistent in enforcing the principles of good governance to guarantee that Kenya maintains its position as a shining example of democracy on the continent by ensuring peace during this transition phase.

“My greatest desire is that peace will prevail and we may set an example in the continent and the world,” President Kenyatta said.

Senator Coons arrived in the country on Wednesday night for a five-country tour of Africa alongside his group

Coons also visited William Ruto, the president-elect, at his home in Karen in a separate meeting and spoke with a US congressional delegation.

Rigathi Gachagua, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula, Kithure Kindiki, Alfred Mutua, and Ababu Namwamba were among those present at the meeting in Karen.
