They will be laid to rest in Gatitu, some 10 kilometers from where they died. The April 9 event, which shocked residents, claimed the lives of a mother, her three children, and two grandchildren.

Mary Wangui, 60, and her three daughters, Cecilia Gathoni, 30, Lucy Mumbi, 18, and Margaret Wanja, 15, were among the victims killed in the fire along with Gathoni's two children, aged 7 and 3.

The six were burned alive and sustained 100 percent-degree burns, according to post-mortems done by chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor at the General Kago Funeral Home in Thika.

Meanwhile, the main suspect in the suspected arson attack, Alice Njoroge, was arrested on April 10 after she apparently moved her items before the incident, raising suspicions about her intentions.

Through Kandara Law Courts Principal Magistrate Eric Mutunga, the court ordered that she be held at Kabati police station for 21 days pending witness statements.

A family source indicated that the unfortunate incident could have been triggered by a misplaced phone, prompting police in Murang'a to pursue a new lead in the case.

The case will be discussed on May 3rd, 2022
