Was Van der Beek furious reactions justified?

Manchester United came from behind to seal a late champions league win against rival team Villarreal, this is after left-back Alex Telles's stunning goal a few minutes after the second half and Cristiano Ronaldos last gasp winner saw them register a 2-1 win in the group stage encounter.

What caught many by surprise, however, was Van de Beek's reactions after being overlooked to come on as a substitute as United was preferring a double substitute to bring on Jesse Lingard and Fred, this is despite having an allocation for one more substitute.

Erick Baily could be seen consoling Van de Beek who appeared to cover his face with his hands before he could be seen taking out chewing gum from his mouth and throwing it down into the United technical area where manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his assistant Terry Phelan were standing.

From the reports, the Dutchman was disappointed, to learning that he will not be coming on even after he had warmed up returned from a warm-up and learning, a disappointed Dutchman was seen throwing his bib to the floor.

Solskjaer had earlier sent on Edinson Cavani and Nemanja Matic looking for a winning goal.

Even though Van der Beek was openly frustrated, manager, Solskjaer decision to bring on Edison Cavani and Lingard proved fruitful in the move which led to Ronaldo firing home in the fifth minute of time added on.

Despite, winning the match, United was largely poor through the better part of the match and the Dutchman perhaps had justification to be furious at being overlooked on a night where Villarreal was at least good value for a point.

Van de Beek has struggled for first-team action at United since arriving in a high profile £35million move from Ajax last summer.

This season he has featured just three times, playing as little as six minutes in the Premier League.

Although he has featured in all the matchday squads, this is now the sixth time he has been left as an unused substitute this term, and his future beyond January already looks unclear as he seeks first-team football.

The midfielder started United's first Champions League match at Young Boys but was replaced at half-time as United looked to shuffle their formation following a first-half red card for Aaron Wan-Bissaka before they eventually crumbled to a 2-1 loss.

His only other appearance this term have come in the League Cup where he played the full match on for United to collapse again after being knocked out at Old Trafford by West Ham.
