The Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has issued a water disruption notice that will affect several estates in Nairobi.

The utility supplier announced the shutdown of a water supply pipeline along Mombasa Road due to the ongoing construction of the Nairobi Expressway.

“The shutdown will facilitate interconnection of the relocated pipeline to the old pipeline at Southern Bypass starting from 6:00 am on Thursday, February 18, 2021, to Friday, February 19, 2021, at 6:00 am,” read the notice.

The exercise once completed will allow for the contractor of the median section of Mombasa Road to proceed with construction works.

Below are the areas set to have water flow disrupted during the construction period:

  1. Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), Athi River Export Processing Zone (EPZ).
  2. Coca Cola, Mukuru kwa Njenga, Imara Daima, estates and Industries along North Airport Road and Embakasi village as well as Tassia estate .
  3. General Services Unit and Administration Police training schools and Nairobi Inland Container depot
  4. Industries along Masai road and adjacent areas.

Residents are therefore urged to use water sparingly as the water company moves to restore normal flow as soon as possible.

Conservation of water is thus possible at home by ensuring you turn off your water taps whenever you are brushing your teeth, limiting wear usage when you are washing your clothes, and recycling it to clean the toilet.

Households also unknowingly lose water in copious amounts through leaks, with residents advised to check for any water leaks within their houses that could cost them thousands of litres per year.
