Why Late Wangari Mathai Is Trending on Social Media

It all begun when a TikTok video of an anonymous young-ish man was circulated on Twitter, in which he was challenged on odd facts about Kenya.

The video was uploaded by user @nena na roxie and was shot in what looks to be one of the city's premium shopping centers.

When asked about the first woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, the man stutters for a moment before responding,

“it’s the shawry for the… forests. Anaitwa? Wangari… Wangari Maathai.” He responded.

This young man called Wangari Maathai 'that shawry for the forests' and Kenyans are in disbelief

The lady again asked the young man which part of Kenya he thinks the name Mathai originated from. “I think it’s from the Maasai niggas”.He responded.

Wangari was a Kenyan social, environmental, and political activist. She was the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

She won the prestigious award in 2004  for her "contribution to sustainable development, democracy, and peace.
