Why Secret Lovers & their Children Will be Locked Out of Property Inheritance

Secret lovers, stepchildren, half brothers, and sisters as well as distant dependants will no longer enjoy the fruits of inheriting benefactor’s properties in case of death.

Why Secret Lovers & their Children Will be Locked Out of Property Inheritance

This is according t the new law of succession Amendment bill that was issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday 17th November.

The law was sponsored by Homabay member of Parliament Peter Kaluma.

According to the new law Only the deceased's spouse and children, whether or not they were maintained by the deceased prior to death, are allowed to inherit property under the new law.

The rule also puts a stop to hidden partners who have a habit of showing up when someone dies and demanding acknowledgment and a piece of the deceased person's assets.

During the National Assembly debate on the Bill, MPs argued that once a person dies, their relatives should not be forced to continue aiding or sharing their riches with individuals whom the dead was supporting.

Supporting someone out of goodwill does not immediately make them a member of one's family, according to North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood, and entrenching the habit is likely to be misused by the intended beneficiaries.
