William Samoei Ruto Declared As the Fifth President of Kenya

Dr. William Samoei Ruto, Kenya Kwanza leader, has won the race to be the fifth president of Kenya and the winner of the August 9, 2022 elections, according to results announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The announcement was made by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday, August 15, 2022 at 6:03PM. He stated that Mr Ruto had met the constitutional requirements after receiving 7,176,141 votes, representing 50.49 percent of all votes cast, and achieving the minimum of 39 counties at 25%.

“In accordance with the Constitution and the law, chairperson of IEBC hereby declare that Ruto William Samoei has been duly elected as the President of the Republic of Kenya under the provision of Article 138 of the Constitution of the Presidential election held on August 9, 2022," Chebukati stated.

Mr Chebukati presented Mr Ruto with the certificate of presidential results to wild applause from his supporters.

“There are no losers. The people of Kenya have won because we raised the political bar,” Ruto stated.

He was accompanied by deputy president-elect Rigathi Gachagua and his wife, First Lady designate Rachel Ruto.
