Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has advised Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir to work with the incumbent government but "not while kneeling down."

'Work With the Government, But Not Kneeling Down' Karua Tells Governor Abdulswamad

Speaking in Mombasa after Governor Abdulswamad Nassir was sworn into office, Karua advised him to work without coercion assuring him of support from the Azimio team whenever he needs guidance.

Karua further urged elected leaders within Azimio to remain united and support their governor in administering his roles, and not ditch camp to Kenya Kwanza as others are doing.

"Collaborate with the government but collaborate from a position of strength and not kneeling down, knowing that Mombasa is solidly behind you and that we in Azimio will be at hand to help you whenever a need arises," said Karua.

"For those who have been elected in Azimio, take heart. It is not necessary to run to those who have rigged elections. Sit down and serve the people. Stay behind the governor so you can be strong."

Karua went on to urge Governor Abdulswamad to work towards delivering reforms to the county, exuding confidence that he will fulfill the promises entailed in Azimio's manifesto to Mombasa residents.

"We expect that the governor and his team will give you more and better services starting on the foundation laid by the former governor Hassan Ali Joho. He has laid a firm foundation let Abdulswamad build on it and go to greater heights," she said.

"I am positive that the county government will give you the promises we mentioned in our manifesto."

Karua also noted that Mombasa should have a stake in the profits made from the Mombasa port when it resumes operation.

This is after President William Ruto, during his inauguration speech on Tuesday, assured coastal residents that he will ensure port operations resume as he had committed to do in his manifesto.

"The port has been reopened but we would like to see Mombasa county having a stake in the port. Mombasa should have a stake in whatever profit is made at the port."
