A 23-year-old mason was killed at a construction site in Nairobi's Pangani district after a huge stone struck him.

The victim was working on a construction site with other workers when the stone fell from the building's 13th floor and struck him in the head.

According to witnesses, the victim was reportedly on the ground floor of the building when the event occurred on Monday afternoon.

Attempts to save his life were unsuccessful and he was declared dead when he arrived at Mama Lucy Hospital.

Police were called to the accident scene and announced that an investigation had been opened to determine what had occurred.

The deceased was taken to the mortuary while the incident is being investigated.

In Pangani, Nairobi, a casual worker died immediately after falling from the 14th story of a building under construction in February. There were 40 other workers at the scene when he slipped and fell.

People are frequently killed at industrial sites in the city by such catastrophic occurrences.

Authorities have made very little effort to mitigate the threat that is attributed to contractors that fail to provide their employees with safety equipment.
